Young Film Critic of the Year in 10-12yr old category

13 January 2010

The film I enjoyed in Cinemagic the most was A Shine of Rainbows as it made me sit at the edge of my seat because it was exciting. I thought the film was excellent because of the characters. The characters were young and I was able to relate to them because they were adventurous and they took risks. I had also seen one of the characters on TV before. When you have seen them before you know if they are confident and you also know if they are good actors and you know if they are funny and if they make you laugh. It was exciting because you did not know what was going to happen next. It was very funny in some parts like the variety of the seal scene at the end, as the seal started slithering back to sea. It was also sad when the father in the family did not like the boy that the mother adopted from an orphanage.

A Shine of Rainbows is a family movie because it is about a family trying to be a better family together in some scenes. I would recommend this movie to a friend because it is very funny and everyone loves a funny movie once in a while. It would also encourage you to go and see a movie if there was another one out at an earlier time, for example St. Trinians 2. I would go and see this movie because I have seen the first one and so this would make me want to go and see the sequel. Home Alone ticks all my boxes because it is very funny, it is entertaining, it’s adventurous and it is also exciting. The features were good and the camera angle was great too. The camera angle was great because you got to see all the angles of the characters and the different scenes. A Shine of Rainbows did not tick my box for features. You would also like to go and see a movie if someone who is on TV or has been on TV in the past. In the Hannah Montana movie Hannah has her own show on TV and she made a movie in 2009, because she is famous and people would want to see her movie.

The acting was fabulous and the face expression was also great in A Shine of Rainbows. The seal looked like it was real but I did not know until the boy told us he was not real. The settings were excellent like the small cottage in the countryside and the seaside was stony and sandy.  Also the costumes looked like what they would have worn in those days and they were really cool. It was entertaining because of the real life features and it was funny in some bits.

If I were to recommend this film to my friend I am sure she would enjoy it. I know most of my class of girls would like to watch this movie. I think some movies are better for girls or boys but for A Shine of Rainbows boys and girls can watch it. Even though there was some sadness when the mother died at the end of the story, the dad and the boy were happy together and had made friends. I like when it is happy at the end of the story and that ticked the last box for me.
