Cinemagic celebrates young production talent as official tournament song for the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship hits the high notes!
The official tournament song for August’s UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship being staged in Northern Ireland from 8-20 August is a culmination of an innovative creative project managed by Cinemagic. The song and video produced with support from the Department for Communities, engaged with local video production and song writing talent, aged 16-25, working under the guidance of industry professionals. Since it was released in June the video has had over 100k views, and an audience reach of 252,867 on Facebook and 2500 views on Youtube.
The track entitled 'Days Like These’ is performed by ‘Triona’ and the video features local acting talent including Richard Clements alongside former Northern Ireland international Ian Stewart and current women’s under-19 forward Rebecca Bassett. It was filmed on location at the childhood home of George Best and the National Football Stadium at Windsor Park.
Joan Burney Keatings, Cinemagic Chief Executive, said: “With support from the Department for Communities and our partners at the Irish FA, we are delighted to support the tournament with this video production and song. It was a fantastic opportunity for aspiring creative industries professionals to work on a truly unique project. Through this project we were able to offer skills development training in a wide range of production disciplines and in doing so help nurture young local talent.”
Sara Booth, Tournament Director, UEFA Women's U19 Championship, said: “The Irish Football Association is very excited to release a song and video of such quality in support of the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship in August. We would like to thank Cinemagic and the Department for Communities who have produced such a great piece of work. The tournament is a fantastic opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland at its best and this collaboration is an exciting example of how culture, arts and leisure can be combined during a major event.”
Jake Morgan, project participant commented: “I was on the song writing team and in November 2016, we attended an anthem writing workshop, where we collaborated with one another to create a collection of song options. Once we chose the song to run with, 'Days Like These', I contributed by writing the orchestral string accompaniment. This played to my strengths as I am a conductor and film score composer. Later in the song mixing process, my string parts were added to flesh out the accompaniment and add that lush texture achieved by orchestral strings. As a 21 year old composer, all song-writing experiences are beneficial to me and this particular Cinemagic project was a masterclass in writing pop anthems.”
Gearoid McSherry, project participant said: “My role on the project was Lighting Assistant, an area I was eager to learn more about. This project certainly helped me to gain more insight into this area of production. I found the experience to be greatly rewarding as it allowed me to find out more about Cinemagic and the work they do to help young filmmakers develop their expertise.”
Danny Mills, project participant said: “I worked as part of the behind the scenes team on the 'Days Like These' video. Although I have a background in filming and editing, I became the interviewer on this project. This gave me the chance to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I found this experience hugely beneficial for my confidence and it has motivated me to pursue a career in broadcast journalism.”
Orla O’Rourke, project participant said: “Our role as a group was to try and create a song that captured the spirit and determination of the teams involved in the competition, and the pride of having it held on home soil in Northern Ireland. We had workshops and writing days with the Cinemagic team, and ended up with three or four final songs to choose from. From the moment we heard "Days Like These" we felt it completely captured the feeling of the competition and seeing the music video with it was a perfect fit. Being involved in this project was incredible, I met some amazing people, improved my song writing skills and learned how to collaborate and create with other writers.”
Anna Callan, project participant said: “For me the IFA project provided the opportunity to work on both the song writing and video production teams. It was great to meet so many like-minded young people, interested in developing a career in the industry whilst working with experienced industry professionals on a project combining my interest in music and film production. Being able to see the process the whole way from the development of the song idea through to seeing the final music video was amazing, and helped show me possible career opportunities within the industry. It was a really great project to be involved in, and has helped develop skills I will definitely use in future work.”
