Posted on 09th December 2014 | Cinemagic News

Into Film Club pupils from Parkhall Primary School enjoyed a taster of the movie making business recently on set for 'A Christmas Star'.

Into Film Club students Marc McAleese, Alex Tailford and teacher Sharon Harbinson from Parkhall Primary School, Antrim, along with other lucky Film Clubs had the opportunity to be film extras recently on the set of Cinemagic production of  "A Christmas Star" starring actors Richard Clements and Bronagh Waugh. The students are members of the Into Film Club initiative funded by the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure (DCAL) through Northern Ireland Screen and delivered by Cinemagic and The Nerve Centre.

Budding young actors from Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland, who made up the cast, got the chance to star alongside Robert James-Collier (Downton Abbey), Suranne Jones (Scott & Bailey) and Bronagh Waugh (The Fall) over the course of the film production.

As part of the production over 40 trainee crew aged 18 - 25 were mentored by industry professionals who trained them in all aspects of filmmaking including direction, production, editing, camera unit, wardrobe and make-up.

Cinemagic Chief Executive, Joan Burney Keatings, MBE said: “The film in its entirety will involve 14,000 people in Northern Ireland. We have received great support from mentors and industry professionals travelling from as far away as New York to be a part of A Christmas Star. Ultimately the opportunities created for the young people and children both in front of and behind the camera are the most important part of this unique project. Nothing like A Christmas Star has ever been done before. We are full of enthusiasm and belief for the project and cannot wait to see the finished product.”

A Christmas Star is supported by OFMDFM, Creative Skillset, Tourism Ireland, Aer Lingus, BBC NI, UTV, Department for Social Development, George Best Belfast City Airport, Panavision, Subway and Arts & Business Northern Ireland.
