TRAINEE PRODUCTION CREW CALL FOR SHORT FILM ACADEMY SUPPORTED BY CREATIVE SKILLSET

Posted on 15th November 2017 |

Cinemagic has launched its search for a young film production crew for the Cinemagic Short Film Academy supported by Creative Skillset’s Film Skills Fund.

The short film will be made by young people under the guidance of industry professionals. Budding filmmakers, aged 18-25, will have the chance to develop their talents and earn their credit on the local production film being made in Northern Ireland in December/ January 2018.

Cinemagic ran this programme for the first time in January 2016 and produced the award-winning short film DELICATE THINGS which was screened in Los Angeles, Newport Beach Film Festival, Galway Film Fleadh, Irish Film Festival London, Irish Film Festival Boston and Cork International Film Festival. In 2016, Cinemagic produced CHANCER as part of the programme which also premiered in Los Angeles 2017 and recently screened at the Richard Harris International Film Festival.  A number of the young filmmakers involved in both films also got the opportunity to travel to Los Angeles in 2016 and 2017 as Cinemagic Ambassadors where they got the opportunity showcase their film and to attend festival events in top studios and organisations such as HBO, Fox, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, New York Film Academy and Warner Brothers to name but a few.
Cinemagic is looking for committed, talented and creative young people who will gain unprecedented access to industry professionals during and prior to making the short film; the successful applicants will participate in a compulsory programme of intensive and practical training through masterclasses and workshops led by the professional mentors.

The opportunity will provide the young filmmakers with an invaluable insight to all aspects of filmmaking and the essential skills required in each area. The young people will be assigned individual roles on the film crew and must ensure that they are available on the following dates:

Monday 11th December 10am – 5pm
Tuesday 12th December 10am – 5pm
Wednesday 13th December 10am – 5pm
Friday 19th January 10am – 5pm
Monday 22nd January 10am – 5pm
FILMING: Tuesday 23rd January– Sunday 27th January (Inclusive) – ALL DAY

The fee for the course is £250

Joan Burney Keatings MBE, Cinemagic Chief Executive said “We look forward to meeting and working with young talented and creative young people who are interested in the film industry and want to share ideas and learn from industry professionals. We are looking for young people from all backgrounds to come together and work on a common goal and illustrate what can be achieved working as a team on this innovative opportunity.”
How to apply: All training and filming will take place across Northern Ireland. Young people are expected to make their own way to and from training and filming each day. No previous experience necessary. You need to be between the ages of 18 and 25 when applying. You must be able to commit to the programme for its duration.

Please download application form HERE or email shauna@cinemagic.org.uk. Please note that applications must be received via email to shauna@cinemagic.org.uk by the deadline of noon on Monday 20th November. Interviews for the short-listed applicants will take place on Wednesday 22nd November.
